Some of McKinley's Kindergarteners playing in the leaves at recess!

McKinley Elementary School opened its 2012 time capsule last week, an event that takes place every 12 years, coinciding with the graduation of the students who originally buried it. Current K-5 students also had the special opportunity to contribute new items to the time capusle, which will be opened in 2036 when the current kindergarteners are high school seniors! #ASDProud

McKinley's Lost & Found
There are three ways to claim your student's missing item from our Lost & Found!
1) Check out our NEW virtual Lost & Found https://photos.app.goo.gl/rByCD2d4WYavaXjL9.
2) Remind your student to go to the Lost & Found during school to claim their item.
3) Parents/Guardians can go to the Lost & Found in the school's vestibule during school hours.
Please remember to label your student's belongings! Lost & Found items that are labeled are delivered to students.
At the end of each month items that are not labeled or claimed will be donated. Thank you!

Honoring our heroes at the Veterans Day Celebration in Rockledge! 🎖️🇺🇸 Rockledge hosted a heartfelt event with local veterans, residents, and friends, bringing together Army, Navy, Air Force, USMC, and PA National Guard veterans. One of the evening’s most touching moments was when a talented group of students from McKinley Elementary presented hand-made cards to the veterans. A truly special evening of gratitude and community.

McKinley Elementary School honors and thanks all Veterans for their service. Happy Veterans Day!

McKinley students enjoyed picking pumpkins in the courtyard and decorating them with their peers. This wonderful activity provided a relaxed environment for building relationships and improving social confidence while enjoying a seasonal tradition.

It's National School Bus Safety Week, and there's no better time than now to familiarize yourself with school bus stopping laws:
1) When you meet a stopped school bus with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP.
2) When you approach an intersection where a school bus is stopped with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP, whether you are on the same street or the cross street.
3) You MUST STOP at least 10 feet away from the school bus.
4) Drivers do not have to stop on a highway with clearly defined dividing sections or physical barriers providing separate roadways. This only applies when the school bus is on the opposite side of the road.
5) You MUST WAIT until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm has been withdrawn before moving.
6) DO NOT MOVE until all the children have reached a place of safety.
Please keep in mind that stop-arm safety technology is being installed on all ASD school buses to help Abington Police better enforce school bus stopping laws. The safety of our students as they travel to and from school is the responsibility of our entire community!

The Abington School District community is invited to join the students and staff of Abington Senior High School at the annual Trunk or Treat event, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, from 5-7 p.m. in the high school faculty parking lot. Costumes are encouraged!

A big thank you to our McKinley PTO for bringing Briar Bush to our 2nd grade class! The students learned about the "ingredients" that make up soil and had the opportunity to add those items to create their own soil mixture. They also discussed the vital role that soil plays in supporting all living things. It was a fantastic and educational experience for everyone!
