It's National School Bus Safety Week, and there's no better time than now to familiarize yourself with school bus stopping laws:
1) When you meet a stopped school bus with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP.
2) When you approach an intersection where a school bus is stopped with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP, whether you are on the same street or the cross street.
3) You MUST STOP at least 10 feet away from the school bus.
4) Drivers do not have to stop on a highway with clearly defined dividing sections or physical barriers providing separate roadways. This only applies when the school bus is on the opposite side of the road.
5) You MUST WAIT until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm has been withdrawn before moving.
6) DO NOT MOVE until all the children have reached a place of safety.
Please keep in mind that stop-arm safety technology is being installed on all ASD school buses to help Abington Police better enforce school bus stopping laws. The safety of our students as they travel to and from school is the responsibility of our entire community!
6th grade students enjoyed dancing, games, snacks and time with friends at 6th grade activity night. Thanks to all the PTO parents for supporting this activity by providing snacks and adults to help supervise. AMS WEB leaders also helped out by running some of the game rooms.
The Going Green Club members planted tulip and crocus bulbs that will greet school visitors with a cheerful splash of color when they bloom in the spring. The next meeting is on Thursday Oct 24, in S106. We plan to go outside again weather permitting.
In 6th grade science students learned about the law of conservation of mass. During lab they recorded evidence of the law being followed during the phenomenons of crushing, dissolving, and melting sugar. Of course after the sugar cooled down they enjoyed a sample and learned how sweet science class can be!
