Rydal's first annual Spelling Bee was a huge success! Students in grades 3-5 participated in Scripps National Spelling Bee Competition. Special guest judges included Abington's own Dr. Fecher and Dr. Melchor, as well as Abington Police Chief, Pat Molloy. Our winner, Gia, will be going on to compete in the regional competition! Thank you Mrs. Hatton and Mr. Watkins for organizing this new Rydal tradition!
REMINDER: The next Arts in ASD parent/guardian group meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 7pm in the AMS Little Theater. The meeting will focus on the visual arts with a presentation from Dr. Matthew Harris and Ms. Nicole Caracciolo, Curriculum Lead for K-12 Art. #ArtsinASD
Abington Police Officer Michael Jones came to visit the 3rd graders at Rydal Elementary! He introduced the students to his K9 partner, Shadow.
Rydal did a fantastic job participating in the MLK Sock Roll Challenge! Students across the school were challenged to donate socks, granola bars, and packs of crackers to be rolled up by the student council and 5th grade volunteers. The sock rolls are being donated to people around the community who are experiencing homelessness to bring some warmth, comfort, and nourishment to those in need! Way to go Rydal!

Abington School District schools and offices will be closed today, January 16, 2024. As a reminder, this first closure will be observed as a traditional emergency closing day for students and staff, which means there will be no instruction.

Rydal celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. with an assembly in his honor. Each grade did a fantastic job presenting songs, ideas, and poems about peace. It was a powerful way to celebrate Dr. King's legacy!

This month, Rydal is focusing on being HELPFUL. Today we had our monthly assembly to introduce our word of the month where the second graders sang a catchy song about being helpful. Our student of the month recipients were announced in front of the whole school along with our raffle winners! Keep showing that awesome BEE-havior!

The student council at Rydal held their annual food drive last week! Students in grades K-5 worked together all week to bring in items that could be donated to a local food bank. At the end of the week, student council members organized and counted all of the food that was collected. In total 1,346 items will be going to the Jenkintown Food Cupboard thanks to the donations from the Rydal community!
