Rydal's student council hosted their annual December Food Drive! Students in grades K-5 donated different food throughout the week to help our community. At the end of the drive, student council members stayed after school to help count, box, and load all of the food that was collected. In all, 1,555 items were sent to the Jenkintown Food Cupboard! Way to go Rydal!
Winter is coming! Inclement weather procedures for the 2024-2025 school year have been emailed to parents/guardians and teachers and staff. Please familiarize yourself with our plans in the event weather conditions warrant an early dismissal, late arrival or school closure.
For the past month, Rydal has been participating in an I-Ready Turkey Trot Challenge! Classes in grades K-2 and 3-5 competed against each other to see who could pass the most I-Ready lessons! Congratulations to Mrs. Hatton's 1st grade class and Mrs. Caldwell's 3rd grade class for coming out on top! The student who passed the most lessons in each class got to participate in a fun relay at a school assembly. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Our Pledge of Character assembly for the month of November was a huge success! Our student council executive board recognized our student of the month winners and announced our raffle winners who modeled the word of the month: RESPONSIBILITY. We are so excited to see what next month brings!
Rydal had a fantastic time celebrating American Education Week! It was so awesome to see so many special visitors get to experience the magic of teaching and learning that Rydal has to offer each and every day!

Ms. Desai's 4th grade class had an awesome outing! After reading "The Wild Robot" book as a read aloud in class, everyone got together to see the movie at Penn Cinema over the weekend! What a fun way to wrap up a great book!
Our 4th and 5th graders did an amazing job at our district Track Meet today! It was so awesome to see the sportsmanship and to hear the cheers coming from the stands. The track team showed up to early morning practices for the whole month of October in order to prepare for the meet today. Their hard work definitely paid off! Way to go!
Kindergarten students participated in their own mock election! Students learned about the importance of voting and later casted their votes privately in booths and placed their votes in the ballot box. They even sported "I Voted!" hats for all of Rydal to see!
To wrap up October, our student of the month winners and raffle prize winners were announced at our school-wide assembly! There were so many smiles as students cheered for their classmates who were recognized for following the 4 BEEs all month long. Looking ahead to November, Rydal is ready to show RESPONSIBILITY! Our next pledge of character word aims for us to show responsibility for our actions each and every day.
Frist Grade had the best Friday celebrating Fall Fest! Mr. Gross from Briar Bush came to Rydal with some animal friends-- students were able to sit in the courtyard and meet Abby the Skunk and Pitters the Rat. Then, they returned to their classrooms and created a fun fall craft!
It's National School Bus Safety Week, and there's no better time than now to familiarize yourself with school bus stopping laws:
1) When you meet a stopped school bus with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP.
2) When you approach an intersection where a school bus is stopped with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP, whether you are on the same street or the cross street.
3) You MUST STOP at least 10 feet away from the school bus.
4) Drivers do not have to stop on a highway with clearly defined dividing sections or physical barriers providing separate roadways. This only applies when the school bus is on the opposite side of the road.
5) You MUST WAIT until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm has been withdrawn before moving.
6) DO NOT MOVE until all the children have reached a place of safety.
Please keep in mind that stop-arm safety technology is being installed on all ASD school buses to help Abington Police better enforce school bus stopping laws. The safety of our students as they travel to and from school is the responsibility of our entire community!
The Abington School District community is invited to join the students and staff of Abington Senior High School at the annual Trunk or Treat event, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, from 5-7 p.m. in the high school faculty parking lot. Costumes are encouraged!
Abington High School ninth graders volunteered at Rydal on Fall Give Back Day! Students in Ms. Crawford's 1st grade class were lucky to have some special visitors who were a huge help during reading time! It was so nice to see so many former Rydal students wanting to coming back to volunteer with their former teachers!
