We had a fun-filled Friday here at Rydal! We had an amazing day celebrating our January student of the month winners, monthly raffle winners, and of course.... the Eagles! There were so many surprises like pom-poms, soft pretzels, and even special video messages from past and present Eagles players just for our students!

Wow! Rydal's Boosterthon event was another HUGE success this year! For the past 2 weeks, students from K-5 were working hard to raise money and earn some awesome prizes. On the final day, everyone participated in a Neon Glow Run to raise an incredible total of $34,700! A huge shoutout to our Rydal PTO for organizing another fun event for everyone!

After reading and discussing the story "Aero and Officer Mike" during class, the third grade classes were lucky enough to interact with real officers and police dogs! The Abington Police Department paid a special trip to Rydal today and brought along their trusty K9s: Moose, Shadow, and Dude. Students were able to learn about the K9s, see some fun tricks, and ask questions. It's always fun to connect our reading to real life!

Today, Dr. Fecher and Dr. Melchor hosted the second meeting for the 2024-2025 school year of the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. The meeting included Chartwells staff members, Ms. Chenille Traylor, Director, and Mr. T.J. Gaetano, Executive Chef. The students had an opportunity to provide feedback and discuss suggestions they had for food service in their school cafeterias. #ASDProud

Rydal's annual Spelling Bee was a huge success! Students in grades 3-5 participated in Scripps National Spelling Bee Competition. Special guest judges included Abington's own Dr. Fecher and Dr. Melchor, as well as Abington Police's Lieutenant Kent. Fifth graders Abi and Laia came out on top! Thank you Mrs. Hatton and Dr. Watkins for continuing this Rydal tradition!

Rydal celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an assembly in his honor. Each grade level presented songs, poems, and writing about peace and the legacy that Dr. King left on the world.

The 5th graders had an awesome time on their field trip to Lincoln Financial Field! They got to check out the special behind-the-scenes aspects of the stadium including the pressroom, locker room, and even got to go onto the field!

UPDATE: The Board of School Directors took a key step forward in its planning process for the future of Abington Middle School. After reviewing community survey results and assessing research and independent analysis, the Board expressed a desire to pursue a plan to build one new middle school on the current campus. The District will now prepare a resolution to fund this project through a referendum, which would be voted on by Abington Township and Borough of Rockledge residents. The Board will review and vote on this resolution at the January 28 meeting of the Board of School Directors. Visit https://www.oneasdonefuture.org/resources for the full presentation and survey results. #OneASDOneFuture

Now through March 31, everyone who shops at the GIANT on Susquehanna Road in Roslyn will be invited to “round up” at the register and donate the round-up amount of their bill to support Feeding School Kids. Customers can also give by converting their CHOICE Rewards Points to donations in the GIANT app, or by purchasing a reusable bag.
At the end of March, all round-up donations will be tallied and donated to Abington School District. Donations have been used by the Student Services Department to purchase GIANT gift cards that are distributed by our social workers directly to our families in need in order to help supplement the cost of their groceries.
Thank you to GIANT and our local families for feeding families in our community!
