Students at Copper Beech present a check for $2,385 to the American Red Cross representative

Last fall, in preparation for February's Abington Pledge of Character theme of "Kindness," Copper Beech Elementary School held a contest where every classroom submitted a T-shirt design that represented kindness. Teachers and staff reviewed all the designs and voted the one submitted by Ms. McGettigan's kindergarten class as the winner.

The shirt design reads: "CB Kind: CB Cares and You Should, Too!" The graphics include heart shapes with fingerprints of each kindergartener inside, representing how each student can make a difference. Shirts were sold to students and their families, as well as staff, in an effort to raise funds for the American Red Cross, specifically to benefit victims of the California wildfires.

In celebration of February's Random Acts of Kindness Week, everyone in school was encouraged to wear their Kindness shirt on the same day. The overall total raised was livestreamed on the morning announcements, with a special check presentation to American Red Cross representative, Ms. Lynn Cohen, being part of the announcement. In total, the Copper Beech Cougars raised more than $2,300 to benefit wildfire victims, with Ms. McGettigan's kindergarten class joining in on the celebration.
