As part of its long-term facilities planning process, “One ASD, One Future,” Abington School District has released an overview of two community surveys as the district evaluates, identifies, and prioritizes investments in its school buildings.
“As a district, we are always working to evaluate the impact of our buildings and facilities on our educational environment and programs,” said Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher. “A key component of this process is hearing from staff, parents, students, and our district community, who are all essential to the success of our schools. We appreciate the input from the individuals who took the time to participate in these surveys.”
In January, the district conducted two community surveys. The first was a scientific phone survey of 500 Abington School District residents, using an independent firm to gather information from a statistically representative sample of the district’s adult population. All residents were also invited to participate in an online survey.
An overview of the survey results was presented at the March 12 meeting of the Board of School Directors. The presentation also included core themes resulting from surveys and listening sessions conducted with teachers, staff, students, and parents last fall. The presentation is available at OneASDOneFuture.org/resources.
“It’s encouraging to see that our community and our district are aligned in our priorities for our schools,” said Dr. Fecher. “The surveys affirm our shared commitment to addressing our aging buildings to foster a quality learning environment that provides the best long-term value for our students, staff, and community. I look forward to continuing this collaborative process as we plan for the future of ASD.”
The next step in the District’s facilities planning process is to develop options that support a comprehensive plan to address the needs of the middle school and improve elementary school infrastructure. Community input will remain vital in this process. The District is committed to sharing information with the community about these options and offering additional opportunities to provide input and feedback.
