District will share the results of recent facilities assessments and hear from residents regarding future investments
In early May, Abington School District will host two Open House and Community Forum events to share the results of the District's recent facilities assessments and hear from residents regarding their hopes for future investments in its school buildings.
The Open House and Community Forum events will be held at Abington Middle School in the Little Theater lobby on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and on Tuesday, May 7 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Each event will include guided tours of the middle school, and opportunities for residents to talk with District leadership, ask questions of the independent consultants retained to assess the District's school buildings, and offer thoughts on next steps.
“We want our community to be part of this process,” said Dr. Jeffrey Fecher, Superintendent of Schools. “As we consider the future of our facilities for our students and staff, we recognize and embrace the need to improve our learning environments, and we want to ensure that every member of our community has the opportunity to provide input.”
Over the past 18 months, the District has evaluated the current challenges and future needs of its schools. Facilities assessments and an enrollment analysis conducted by independent experts at the beginning of 2023 found that every school, other than Abington Senior High School, will likely need significant facility investments before the end of the decade – particularly Abington Middle School, which was built in 1964 and continues to see growth in its student population.
To keep the community informed and involved in the facilities planning process, Abington School District created a dedicated website, OneASDOneFuture.org. Residents may visit the website to learn more about the district’s challenges, the planning process so far, review resources and frequently asked questions, and connect with the District.
