A slice of fun while learning is the only way to describe the Title I K-2 Families' Night hosted by Overlook Elementary on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024. After having pizza and dessert, Kindergarten, first, and second-grade students and their families participated in ELA and Math workshops to learn strategies to help students continue to grow academically. Reading specialists, our school counselor, school psychologist, and ECS demonstrated reading and math strategies while offering resources beyond academics. It was a great night of fellowship and learning! We are Better Together, and We are Overlook Proud!

It's National School Bus Safety Week, and there's no better time than now to familiarize yourself with school bus stopping laws: 1) When you meet a stopped school bus with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP. 2) When you approach an intersection where a school bus is stopped with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP, whether you are on the same street or the cross street. 3) You MUST STOP at least 10 feet away from the school bus. 4) Drivers do not have to stop on a highway with clearly defined dividing sections or physical barriers providing separate roadways. This only applies when the school bus is on the opposite side of the road. 5) You MUST WAIT until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm has been withdrawn before moving. 6) DO NOT MOVE until all the children have reached a place of safety. Please keep in mind that stop-arm safety technology is being installed on all ASD school buses to help Abington Police better enforce school bus stopping laws. The safety of our students as they travel to and from school is the responsibility of our entire community!

Overlook celebrated "Start with Hello" this week. Students at Overlook practiced kindness, inclusivity, and a sense of community. One of the main goals this week was to foster inclusivity, which is the character trait in the Abington School District for the month of September and beyond. Students were encouraged to greet and engage with one another, aiming to further a more inclusive and welcoming environment at Overlook! On Friday students signed a pledge to continue to practice kindness by including others.
