Good Morning- as part of nonviolent conflict resolution week, I would like to talk to you about emotional awareness. Being aware of your emotions can help you to resolve conflicts in nonviolent ways, and it can even help you to avoid conflicts altogether. How are you feeling right now? Are you excited? Happy? Sad? Bored? Knowing how we feel in the moment helps us to decide how we should respond to challenges when they arise. Some emotions are positive and some are negative, but there are no right or wrong emotions- there are only right or wrong ways of expressing, or acting on our emotions. Remember, you are responsible for your decisions and actions no matter how you feel. You may be angry in a situation, but it’s up to you to control your emotions and act responsibly in order to solve problems rather than making them worse. Emotional awareness- or being aware of how we are feeling- is an important part of resolving conflict, and making good decisions in the moment.
